Urban Design modelling with Modelur for SkecthUp

by Artvisualizer Press Media Saturday, May 16, 2009

Modelur is a new parametric modeling application add-on to SketchUp that addresses urban design. Modelur offers basic tools for quick and effective urban design. Intuitive user interface offers a steep learning curve, especially if you are already familiar with Google Sketchup. In contrast to traditional CAD tools, where the building is described by its width, length and height, Modelur uses parametric rules to derive design based on a combination of desired final parameters.

Modelur features batch modifications of the whole built area. The system can also detect and illustrate planning conflicts if your plan adjusts and then conflicts urban parameters or given restrictions. You can produce sun illumination simulations with the built-in tools in SketchUp and save them as QuickTime movies, and more.

MODELUR enables:
  • rapid design of built environment
  • quick response to changed conditions of planned site
  • automatic change of built environment
  • quick creation of different variants of urban design solution
  • avoiding mistakes issued by wrong building articulation
  • continuous supervision of achieved urban control values.
The user interface to Modelur looks solid and the program is compatible with both Mac OS X and Windows versions of SketchUp. To learn more about Modelur go here.
